Teej or Haryali Teej is mainly celebrated in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. It is celebrated to remember the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the day when Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife. Goddess Parvati is also known as Teej Maata.
This time Teej is on 26 July 2017.
It is also another way to welcome monsoon by swinging on swings. This is mainly celebrated by married women. In Rajasthan (since I’m from Rajasthan), parents of married women send sinjara to their daughters with all ‘Suhaag ka Saaman’ like bindi, bangles, Mehendi, Sindoor, Ghevar and Lahariya Sarees. Laheriya Sarees are mainly wore around monsoon season and in the teej celebration.
