Wonder Hair Gel: Flaxseed Hair Gel

flaxseed gel

Why to spend big bucks over those synthetic hair gels which not just make our hair damaged but are the main cause of hair falls too.  Recently I was reading an article about some hair care and on hair loss remedies and come across this amazing video of making a hair gel at home with just few ingredients like flaxseeds.

If I talk about benefits of flaxseeds (in Hindi it’s known as “alsee ka beej”) then it’s not just good for our hair but good for skin and health too. And there are some evidence that flaxseeds may help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. It’s rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids which is mostly available in sea foods and fish. So, for my vegetarian friends it’s a delight for you guys. You can consume flax seeds in your daily diet without a hassle; simply crush them into some smoothies or oats, even in the Atta to make chapattis.  Moreover, it contains Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than any other plant foods.

Now get back to the Hair Gel. This hair gel is like a leave-on conditioner, which makes your hair set, soft, silky and manageable. Flaxseeds encourage hair re-growth and prevent further hair loss. You may also use flax seed oil for hair oiling. Flax seeds strengthen your hair and good for your scalp. Although consuming excessive flax seeds may have side effects so always consult your doctor before consuming it. However, here we are talking about the external usage so there is no harm to use this.

Let’s not waste any time, and make this wonderful hair gel –

You need –

  • ¼ cup (4 tablespoons) flaxseeds
  • 2 cups of water
  • ¼ cup of aloe vera juice/gel (optional)
  • Few drops of essential oil (I have used peppermint and rosemary oil for this gel)

Method –

  1. Take flaxseeds and water in a pan and bring it to boil.
  2. Stir gently and constantly. Soon you will find a foamy liquid and the liquid will turn into gel sort of mixture. Boil until the mixture reduces to half.
  3. Strain the mixture with help of a strainer or with a muslin cloth.
  4. Once it’s cool. Add aloe vera juice/gel and few drops of essential oils.

**Aloe Vera is again good for hair growth and for basic hair care. And essential oils will increase the life of this product.

You need to keep it in a refrigerator. Usually this gel stays for 10-12 days easily in a refrigerator. Remember if you are looking for styling your hair like for crunching or for soft curls, use this gel more than usual. No doubt it’s a slimy gel but it’s a wonder gel as I said.

I bought flaxseeds for Rs. 50 for 250 grams. And essential oil cost me about Rs. 300 for each bottle. Although even essential oils are optional but as I said it will increase the life moreover it will give a yummy smell too. Peppermint, ylang ylang and rosemary essential oils are beneficial for preventing hair loss and it promotes hair growth too. Lastly I am sharing a video which I found to make this hair gel.
